Applications for Funza Lushaka Bursary 2025 are open!

The Funza Lushaka Bursary covers tuition fees, accommodation, books and learning materials, teaching practice and a small allowance for monthly living expenses.

2025 Funza Lushaka applications will open on 10 October. There are two different Funza Lushaka applications: one for new students and one for re-applications for existing/returning bursars. They will therefore have separate deadlines.

Funza Lushaka Bursary 2025 Application Deadlines

  • New students – 26 January 2025
  • Existing/Returning Bursars – 30 November 2024

Courses Covered By The Funza Lushaka Bursary

  • 4-year Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.) specialising in one of the following:
    • Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3)
    • Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 6)
    • Senior and Further Education and Training Teaching (Grade 7-12)
  • One-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
    •  Only the PGCE for Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching (SPFET) (Grade 7-12)

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme to promote teaching as a profession. Bursaries are available to enable selected students to complete a teaching qualification in identified Subject priority areas.

Funza Lushaka Bursary Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • Demonstrate good academic ability
  • 30 years old and below
  • Accepted into an approved B.Ed. degree or PGCE programme to specialise in two or more of the priority subject areas.
  • Meet the minimum academic criteria

How To Apply

The Funza Bursary covers tuition fees, accommodation including meals, books and learning materials and it’s also possible for students to receive a small allowance for monthly living expenses.

Follow these steps to submit your online application:
1) Visit the e-Government Portal website: https://tinyurl.com/43r9m28d
2) Register an account by filling in your required personal details
3) Login using your selected username and password
4) Select “Education” on the menu
5) Under the Education menu, Select “Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme”
