Requirements:
- Minimum qualification of ABET or Grade 10.
- At least 1 year of experience in portering services within a hospital setting.
- Ability to work shifts, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong team player with a collaborative mindset.
- Commitment to adhering to Occupational Health and Safety regulations and Infection Prevention and Control Principles.
- Skills: Problem-solving, effective communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal abilities, report writing, and the capacity to work under pressure.
- Familiarity with the public service code of conduct.
Duties:
Porters will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Transport patients to and from ambulances and private vehicles, providing assistance to those unable to walk.
- Accompany both walking and non-walking patients across various hospital areas.
- Prepare wheelchairs and stretchers for use in different hospital departments.
- Handle the transportation of deceased patients to the mortuary with care.
- Monitor mortuary gauges and inspect stretchers daily to ensure readiness.
- Remove soiled linen from sluice rooms and prepare stretchers for reuse.
- Collect unused stretchers and wheelchairs from around the hospital.
- Maintain cleanliness by cleaning mortuary floors, fridges, cooled rooms, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
- Assist private undertakers with the collection of deceased individuals, completing BI 1663 documents, and updating the mortuary register.
- Support relatives during the identification process, ensuring accurate labeling of deceased individuals.
