It is most likely that you will be required to complete a learnership to be an eligible traffic officer A learnership is a work-based learning programme that leads to a
National Qualifications Framework (NQF) registered qualification.
Learnerships are directly related to an occupation or field of work, such as electrical engineering, hairdressing or project management.
Traffic Learnership 2024
The Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) are in charge of overseeing leadership. The government introduced them to aid skill-builders and better prepare individuals for the labour market.
The practical component involves hands-on, practical learning under the supervision of a mentor. To graduate from a learnership, you must complete an education and training provider’s theoretical and workplace component.
With this in mind, here is how you can go about applying for a learnership to become a traffic officer:
Traffic Officer Learnership 2024 Online Application
Some companies offer online application procedures for learnerships. Although not all of them do, their offices will have applications available.
- Candidates are required to fill out a Z83 Form, which is available at all Provincial Government Departments.
Candidates are required to complete and sign these forms completely. Each application must be accompanied by a certified copy of the candidate’s identification document, a list of all relevant qualifications, a driving license, a curriculum vitae, and contact details.
Traffic trainees must follow good road safety procedures, have good vehicle fitness and to be able to drive a car with manual transmission.

Applications with comprehensive curriculum vitae must be submitted to the Senior Manager Human Resources, of the person they appoint on their behalf, and all applications will be considered in line with the Employment Equity Act.
Candidates must be open to moving and travelling if necessary. The majority of the training candidates will receive will be in line with the requirements for Traffic Officers as laid out by the SAQA Registered Qualification programme.
Road traffic law enforcement is one of the primary activities of the traffic department and in metro areas there is a traffic law enforcement division within each municipal traffic department.
Other law enforcement activities include the issuing of vehicle licences, but not the driving license as this is done nationally. Traffic officers will however be tasked with checking that drivers in their location have a valid driving licence.

Traffic Officer Learnership 2025 Intake Closing Date
Late applications are not taken into consideration, thus, candidates are urged to ensure that they have their applications in before closing dates.
The minimum requirements when applying for a traffic officer learnership would include being 18 years old, have SAPS clearance results, no criminal record, to have passed grade 12, and usually no older than 35 years.
The majority of the companies offering these learnerships ask that applicants give three months for communications following the closing dates. Candidates can assume their applications were rejected if no correspondence has been received after this time.
