Programme Overview

Ndwedwe’s fire internship blends classroom instruction with hands-on field training over 12 months.

Application & Selection

Open to Ndwedwe residents aged 18–30, applicants submit a CV and letter explaining their passion for community service. A rigorous selection process assesses physical fitness, communication skills, and willingness to learn.

Training Curriculum

  • Fire Science & Safety: Anatomy of fire, fire behavior, and standardized personal protection protocols.

  • Controlled Burns: Safely conducting burns under supervision to reduce wildfire risk.
  • First Aid & Basic EMT: Essential trauma management skills for emergencies.

Field Deployment

Interns respond alongside municipal fire teams to actual incidents—vegetation fires, road accidents, small structural fires—under strict oversight. Each deployment hones situational judgment, communication, and technical execution.

Participants are paired with experienced firefighters who guide them through challenging scenarios, encourage reflection, and help chart future career paths, whether within emergency services or other public safety roles.

  • The incumbent must have Matric Certificate, Fire Fighter 1&2 and a Valid driver’s license Code B.
