About the Diploma in Nursing (R171)

The Diploma in Nursing (R171) is a three-year full-time qualification leading to registration as a General Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). The programme combines theoretical instruction with practical clinical training at accredited public health facilities in KwaZulu-Natal.

Minimum Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma/Bachelor endorsement
  • Minimum subject achievement levels:
    • English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
    • Life Sciences: Level 4
    • Mathematics: Level 3 or Mathematical Literacy: Level 4
    • Life Orientation: Level 4
    • Any other two subjects to bring the total APS score to 27 or higher
