HIGHER CERTIFICATE: AUXILIARY NURSING (1 year programme) (SANC Regulation R.169)
Core Purpose of Programme
■ Prepare student with necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to function as a clinically focused, service oriented, independent nurse practitioner, able to render competent nursing care determined by
the appropriate scope of practice.
■ Provide the student with the necessary scientific knowledge, clinical practice and interpersonal skills.
■ Socialise the student into the profession to demonstrate the appropriate attitude, behaviour and image of the profession and uphold the ethical and legal codes that govern professional practice.
■ On completion of the South African Nursing Council (SANC) professional registration exam, the student will be able to register with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), as an Auxiliary
Nurse and will be able to enroll in further higher education studies in nursing.

Application Process
■ Applications must be submitted to the relevant learning centre between October and November annually.
■ Proof of non-refundable administration fee, plus required supporting documentation listed in the application form to be submitted.
■ All applicants will follow the college selection process.

Minimum Admission Requirements
■ HEQSF criteria: Higher Certificate NQF level 5
■ Total credits for the programme: 120
■ Minimum statutory National Senior Certificate (NSC) requirements for entrance into higher education, higher certificate entry level must be met, or
■ A recognised qualification deemed to be equivalent by the college senate and professional body
■ Language English at NSC achievement rating of 4 (50-59%) or above
■ Mathematical literacy at NSC achievement rating of 3 (40 – 49%) or above
■ Life Sciences at NSC achievement rating of 3 (40 – 49%) or above
■ International applicants should have a South African Qualifications Authority equivalency certificate
■ Recommendation: completion of computer literacy course
Duration 1 year. Full time study.
