The South African Police Service (SAPS) invites qualified applicants to apply for vacancies within Forensic Social Work, #EmployeeHealthandWellness (EHW), and SAPS Garages, from the level of Constable to Captain: Limpopo Province.

Appointments will be made in terms of the SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No. 68 of 1995). Applications must be submitted on the official SAPS application form, available on the SAPS website.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) offers a wide range of career opportunities across the country, divided into two primary employment categories:

  • Police Act Appointments: Active-duty police officers, constables, and specialized crime-fighting units.

  • Public Service Act Appointments: Civilian personnel performing critical support roles, such as administration, finance, HR, and general maintenance.

Many regional departments regularly recruit for skilled trades and specialized support staff under the Police Act:

  • Western Cape: Active openings for Artisans (Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Spray Painters, Auto Electricians) at the Constable level, as well as Forensic and Senior Social Workers.

  • National Headquarters (Pretoria): Frequently hires specialized personnel such as Cyber Crime Investigators, specialized Warrant Officers, and administrative managers.

  • Civilian Support: Positions like Financial Clerk Supervisors and administrative support roles are regularly released through the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) circulars.

2. The Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP)

If you are looking to become a police officer from scratch, you must enter through the 24-month basic training contract:

1.Check Eligibility:Pre-application.

Ensure you meet the core criteria: SA citizenship, aged 18 to 30, possessing a valid Grade 12 (Matric) certificate, and having no criminal record.

2.Submit Official Application:Recruitment Phase.

Fill out the official SAPS application form (available on their website) when the national trainee intake window opens. Submit it with certified copies of your ID and qualifications.

3.Undergo Assessments:Selection Phase.

Pass the physical fitness test, medical examination, and psychological profiling assessments.

4.Phase 1: Academy Training:Months 1–10.

Undergo foundational training at a designated SAPS Academy. Trainees receive free meals, accommodation, and a basic allowance of approximately R3,175 per month.

5.Phase 2 & 3: Fieldwork & Evaluation:Months 11–24.

Gain practical workplace exposure at a police station (allowance increases to approximately R7,275 per month) before completing final assessments back at the academy.
