Applicants must be South African citizens residing in Mpumalanga Province. Both current Grade 12 learners and candidates who have already completed Matric may apply, provided they meet the required academic criteria.

Applicants must meet the following minimum academic requirements:
National Senior Certificate
Candidates should have a National Senior Certificate with a Diploma or Degree pass.
Required Subjects
Applicants must have:
- English: Level 4 or higher
- Home Language or Additional Language: Level 3 or higher
- Life Sciences: Level 4 or higher, OR
- Physical Sciences: Level 3 or higher
- Mathematics: Level 3 or higher, OR
- Mathematical Literacy: Level 5 or higher
- Any other subject: Level 3 or higher
- Life Orientation: Level 3 or higher
Applicants must achieve a minimum APS of 23, calculated using their six highest-scoring subjects, excluding Life Orientation.
Diploma in Nursing Include?
- Successful applicants will complete a structured nursing training programme that combines theoretical classroom learning with practical clinical experience.
- Students will attend lectures and participate in Work Integrated Learning at healthcare facilities accredited by the South African Nursing Council.
- This practical training gives nursing students supervised exposure to real healthcare environments while completing their academic studies.
- Successful candidates will also be required to sign an agreement or contract with the Mpumalanga Department of Health.
Verification

- National Senior Certificates may be submitted to UMALUSI for verification.
- The Department also states that certificates that cannot be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) will not be considered for admission.
