2024 Matric Results Release Date

The 2024 final matric exams began on 21 October and concluded on 28 November.

A total of 732,448 full-time candidates registered for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, reflecting an increase of 8,400 compared to 2023. Additionally, 136,195 part-time candidates registered to sit for various subjects this year.

With the exams now complete, thousands of matriculants eagerly await their 2024 results as the Provincial Departments of Education finalize preparations for the release.

Matric Results Release Date 2024

Department of Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube will announce the 2024 national matric results on 13 January 2025. Provincial education departments will then distribute the results to candidates on 14 January 2025, making them accessible to matriculants on the morning of that day.

Students can collect their results at their exam centres or access them online by visiting the Department of Basic Education’s matric results portal. To view the results online, candidates must enter their exam number and may need to provide additional details such as their ID number.

If students are unhappy with their results, they will have the option to apply for re-marks or re-checks after the release. They can register to rewrite matric.

2025 May/June Matric Rewrite Applications Now Open

Applications are now open for the 2025 May/June Senior Certificate (SC) and National Senior Certificate (NSC) rewrites. Registration began on 1 October 2024 and will close on 7 February 2025, giving matriculants an opportunity to improve their results during the midyear exams.

IEB Matric Results Release Date

The IEB confirmed that the 2024 IEB matric results for the November 2024 examination period will be released to candidates on 13 January, subject to Umalusi’s approval.

Should candidates be unsatisfied with their matric results, they are able to request a re-mark with applications closing on 31 January 2025. These IEB matric re-mark results will then be released on 1 March 2025.

Candidates can apply for a matric rewrite with the next rewrite opportunity being in May/June 2025. Applications for the May 2025 matric exam rewrite will be open from 1 March until 14 March.

How To Check Your IEB Matric Results

Firstly, the IEB will forward the final Matric results to schools and they will then pass on the results to their candidates.

You can then view it in the following ways:

  • Pupils will be able to find their results online using the IEB website when they are released.
  • Results can also be accessed via SMS, using the following options:
    • If the IEB has been provided with your cellphone number, your results will automatically be sent to the number provided.
    • You can register by SMS by sending an SMS to 35135.
      • The SMS should read: Results (your examination number) (your DOB yyyymmdd)
      • You will then receive a message notifying you that the registration has been
        successful and you will receive your results when they are released.

As for your certificate/statement of results that is released by UMALUSI, they will be sent to your school in April after the Matric results release.
