Eligibility Criteria

  • Qualification: BSc Honours Degree in Physics or a related technical field.

  • Work Experience: Must be an unemployed graduate with no prior relevant work or internship experience. (Candidates with prior experience will not be considered).

  • Core Competencies / Knowledge:

    • Temperature measurement systems, laboratory automation, and calibration

    • Scientific data analysis, programming, and simulations

    • Understanding of measurement uncertainty and physics-based corrections

    • Advantageous: Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 standard or GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement)

Key Responsibilities

  • Calibration of temperature sensors and preparing calibration certificates.

  • Supporting dissemination of temperature traceability from national standards to South African industry.

  • Preparing measurement uncertainty budgets and maintaining accurate job records.

  • Supporting compliance with NMISA’s Total Quality Management System and ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

NMISA Temperature Internship Programme 2026

NMISA is offering a 24-month internship opportunity aimed at providing a graduate with practical training in Temperature Metrology.

The successful candidate will support the dissemination of traceability from South Africa’s national temperature standards to industry.

Internship Stipend

R6,758 to R8,878 per month

Important Experience Requirement

NMISA specifically states that:

No prior internship or relevant work experience is required.

The advertisement further states that applicants who already have relevant work experience will not be considered.

Applicants should follow these naming instructions exactly because NMISA states that non-compliant applications will not be considered.

PDF Format Requirements

All four documents must be submitted in PDF format.

NMISA will not accept:

  • Microsoft Word documents.
  • Photographs.
  • JPEG or other image files.
  • Google Drive links.
  • OneDrive links.
  • Dropbox links.

The CV must be a proper PDF created from a document and must not be a scanned photograph.

The applicant’s:

  • Full name.
  • Cellphone number.
  • Email address.

must appear at the top of the CV.

Academic Transcript Requirement

The academic transcript is compulsory.

It must be:

  • Complete.
  • Clear.
  • Readable.
  • Submitted as a PDF.
  • A full record of marks.
  • Not submitted merely as a photograph.

Applications without an academic transcript will not be considered.

ID and Qualification Documents

The certified ID and qualification certificates may be scanned, but they must be:

  • Clear.
  • Legible.
