STUDENT NURSE INTAKE 2027 – Diploma in Nursing
Successful applicants will be required to sign an agreement with Department of Health.
Must have Grade 12 or currently be busy with Grade 12.
Application process:
- (2) Two programmes are available for the 2027 intake: the three-year Diploma in Nursing: General (R.171) and the one-year Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing (R.169). Importantly, these are separate programmes with different application documents, district reference numbers and closing dates.
- Applicants can apply across the five Limpopo districts: Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe and Waterberg. Applications are submitted online.

Diploma in Nursing:
- The Diploma in Nursing: General R.171 is a three-year nursing programme. The 2027 intake is advertised under Departmental Circular 67 of 2026, with Department reference S5/05/27.

Applicants should use the application route for the district in which they wish to apply. The district reference numbers are: Capricorn LDH/10/006; Mopani LDH/10/007; Sekhukhune LDH/10/008; Vhembe LDH/10/009; and Waterberg LDH/10/0010.
Enrolled Nurses who are employed by the Department and apply as study-leave candidates through the applicable Recognition of Prior Learning route must also complete the relevant RPL documentation.
Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing R.169
- The Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing R.169 is a one-year programme for applicants interested in training in auxiliary nursing.
- The programme is advertised under Departmental Circular 66 of 2026, with Department reference S5/01/27.
- The closing date for R.169 applications is 31 October 2026, which is earlier than the closing date for the R.171 Diploma programme.
- District reference numbers for R.169 are: Capricorn LDH/10/001; Mopani LDH/10/002; Sekhukhune LDH/10/003; Vhembe LDH/10/004; and Waterberg LDH/10/005.
Admission Requirements
- Applicants should carefully read the 2027 prospectus for the specific nursing programme they wish to pursue.
- The College advises applicants to use the current prospectus when checking admission and subject requirements rather than relying on requirements published for previous nursing intakes.
- This is particularly important because the R.171 Diploma and R.169 Higher Certificate are different qualifications and may have different admission requirements.
Documents Required
Applicants should prepare the appropriate programme application form and rating scale,
- Certified copies of educational qualifications including Matric or the National Senior Certificate, proof of residence and an identity document.
- Applicants using the applicable R.171 Recognition of Prior Learning route must also provide the required RPL documentation.
- Make sure that documents are clear and that you are using the application documents meant specifically for your chosen programme
How to Apply for College of Nursing 2027
Applications are completed online through the Limpopo Department of Health application system. Applicants must first decide whether they are applying for R.171 or R.169 and then select the application route corresponding to their Limpopo district.
