Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must hold one of the following:
- N2 Qualification with subjects including Mathematics, Engineering Science, Plating & Structural Drawing, and Metal Worker’s Theory; or
- N3–N6 Qualification with Mathematics, Engineering Science, Plating & Structural Drawing, Engineering Drawing, or Mechanotechnology; or
- NCV Level 4 Qualification including English, Mathematics, Life Orientation, and vocational subjects such as Engineering Processes, Applied Engineering Technology, or Welding; or
- Technical Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science, Mechanical Technology (Welding/Metal Work), and Engineering Graphic Design.

About the Apprenticeship
The Boilermaker Apprenticeship Programme is designed to prepare learners to operate independently and productively as competent artisans. Apprentices will receive structured training to plan, manufacture, assemble, inspect, commission, and repair metal components and structures. Through this hands-on training, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to work effectively in industrial and manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare work sites, equipment, tools, and materials for trade-related operations.
- Use hand, power, and measuring tools to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Install, assemble, fit, and inspect mechanical and metal structures and components.
- Test, commission, maintain, and repair mechanical assemblies and systems.
- Apply problem-solving and safety principles during all work activities.
