Transnet Traineeship Programme
The Trainee Controller is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of petroleum products through Transnet’s pipeline network.
This role involves operating specialized equipment in accordance with scheduled programs and instructions, focusing on product volume and quality, safety of personnel, company assets, and customer satisfaction.
Position Outputs
1. Risk/Pollution Control
Communicate Information: Report and document risk status of the depot to relevant role players.
System Extraction: Extract and document information related to risk status.
Compliance: Apply and enforce company regulations and legislation related to risk, including managing permits, clothing, restrictions, and instructions.
Monitor: Oversee separator tanks, detect leaks and spillages, and manage water drainage from bund areas.
2. Handle Transmixtures/Intermixtures
Communication: Relay relevant information regarding transmixtures and intermixtures.
System Use: Utilize company operations systems and software for handling and controlling mixtures/intermixtures.
Information Management: Extract, capture, and verify information, prioritizing according to company policies and procedures.
Planning: Plan and manage transmixtures, intermixtures, blending, and tanker loading.
3. Perform Minor Maintenance
Planning and Execution: Plan and execute unscheduled and scheduled minor maintenance, including testing, lubrication, and repairs.
Information Management: Extract and document information related to maintenance activities.
4. Launch and Receive Pigs and Spheres
Communication: Inform relevant parties about the launching of pigs and spheres.
System Utilization: Use systems and software for the launching process, including isolation, draining, and opening procedures.
5. Perform Product Metering
Communication and Operation: Use company operating systems and control metering equipment for product measurement.
Information Management: Capture and verify metering information and equipment performance.
6. Perform Shut Downs of Product Movement
Condition Management: Address substandard conditions and implement corrective actions during pipeline shutdowns.
Monitoring: Oversee shutdown processes and capture relevant information.
7. Perform Product Quality Tests
Testing: Utilize company equipment and software for product quality testing.
Monitoring: Track initial performance of pipeline equipment and product movement.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Standard 10/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science, or N3 Technical Engineering in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Metering Control, or Instrumentation fields.
Assessment: Passed competency assessment for technical ability, numeric, verbal, and abstract reasoning.
Language: Good command of the English language.
Experience:
12-18 months of practical on-the-job experience.
Driver’s License: Code 08.
