About the Position SARS has established the Customs Cadet Programme that seeks to recruit and place successful Cadets as Customs Officers of the future. Through a blended learning approach over a period up to 12 months, the Customs Cadet will be trained on the various fundamentals of Customs. The programme includes on-the-job training, mentoring, and structured learning opportunities to equip graduates with the skills necessary to become competent Customs Officers.

Job Purpose To obtain integrated learning that combines theory with practical experience by completing a one-year structured development programme to enable delivery in allocated areas of work, under supervision and guidance.

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

  • Post matric qualification (Degree or higher), in Audit, Data Analytics, Policing/Criminology, Statistical Analysis, Customs or Trade, Shipping and Logistics, Transport and Logistics, Logistics Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Economics, Maritime Studies or Business Studies.

  • No experience is required to be eligible for participation in the graduate trainee programme.

Job Process

  • Assist in performing operational functions in area of responsibility and updating information on systems where necessary.

  • Identify and resolve basic queries timeously, apply discretion in line with process guidelines provided and escalate unresolved problems.

  • Take accountability for delivery of contracted work outputs within agreed parameters, quality standards and targets.

  • Follow and adhere to individual learner activity manual for the division or business unit.

  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with peers, SARS role players and third parties to achieve predefined objectives.

  • Communication of transactional outputs and queries in area of work according to policies and quality requirements.

  • Contribute to the development & improvement of area specific standards, procedures, and processes to ensure continued quality and service improvement.

  • Contribute to the successful implementation of change initiatives by providing support in area of work.

  • Deliver on contracted performance objectives and escalate unresolved delivery and quality issues to management and process owners.

  • Draw on own knowledge and experience to identify and develop solutions that leads to improved service delivery and quality.

  • Effectively plan and schedule own activities to continuously improve quality and service delivery in area of work.

  • Report on transactional and process activities within set guidelines to provide timely information for decision making.

  • Ensure that completed work adhere to relevant policies, procedures, governance and legislative requirements and report on deviations & discrepancies.
