There have been double payments announced along with the granting of multitude payments to the recipients during April: bringing relief to millions of South Africans. This is part of the government’s initiative regarding the lives of economically vulnerable persons suffering the burden of higher living costs and pressures against the economy. Why Double Payments In April?
According to the Department of Social Development, therefore, for April 2025 the present situation will apply for a twofold grant payment when there is a strategic adaptation in the payment schedule. Thus, one will encompass the grant of April, while the other could be a substantiated early offer for May, enabling recipients to navigate expenses incurred during a long public holiday stretch.
In short, two will come in one month, but not a double amount for April: it would simply be an early payout for May to avoid delays or disruptions.
Who Gets The Double Payment?
All permanent beneficiaries of SASSA grants will include those whose grants are as follows:
- Older Persons Grant
- Disability Grant
- Child Support Grant
- Foster Care Grant
- Care Dependency Grant
- War Veterans Grant
SRD R350 beneficiaries are excluded from the double payment rollout, as their payment structure is monthly and based on verification cycles.
Amount Paid-New-Applied From April 2025
As part of the SASSA increase in April 2025, the amounts were updated as follows:
- Older Persons Grant: Said to increase from R2,180 (60 years and older) and R2,200 (75 years and older)
- Disability Grant: R2,180
- Child Support Grant: R530
- Foster Child Grant: Increased to R1,180
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,180
- War Veterans Grant: Now at R2,200
With these figures, those beneficiaries will get the increase amount in two payments in April to enable them to better cope with rising costs.
Payment Dates To Remember
Dates for payment in April, as amended by SASSA, are now made available:
- Older Persons Grant: 2 April 2025
- Disability Grant: 3 April 2025
- Child support and Others: 4 April 2025
The second payment for May is expected in the last week of April, but the exact dates may differ according to province and payment method.
