  • For those whose R350 grant applications are declined, there is an avenue for appeal against Sassa’s decision. However, it’s important to note that the appeals process for the R350 grant has changed.
  • Notably, changes to the SRD grant encompass more than just alterations to the grant’s legislation and qualifying criteria; they also encompass adjustments to the process of appealing a rejected R350 grant application.
  • To oversee appeals related to the SRD R350 grant, the Minister of Social Development (DSD) has appointed the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals.

SRD Grant Requirements

To qualify for the social relief of distress grant, applicants need to meet specific eligibility criteria, which can be found on the SRD Sassa website. The R350 grant is available to all South Africans aged 18 to 59 who lack an alternate source of income. This means that they must not be receiving a salary or any other grants from Sassa. The eligibility criteria are straightforward.

  • Once an application form with personal details is submitted to benefit from Sassa’s Social Relief of Distress grant, it’s advisable to perform a Sassa status check to ensure successful submission.
  • In the event of Sassa rejecting an application and a disagreement arising with the decision, the first step is to launch an appeal.
  • As with all social assistance appeals, the appeal process is conveniently accessible electronically so you should be able to view your appeal status.
  • Sassa reviews R350 grant applications monthly to ascertain that the grant recipients continue to require assistance.

It’s vital to note that the social relief grant, commonly referred to as the R350 grant, doesn’t have a fixed payment date. Sassa approves grant applications, and beneficiaries are notified via message when their payment is available for collection.

Upon the confirmation of a successful Sassa SRD status check appeal, payments will be initiated from the month of the initial application
